Upgrade V225 Condor

The big jet completed a deep overhaul and upgrade period last March that had kept it from the skies for an extended period of time. Suffice it to say that aviation aficionados and photographers are more than pleased to see it back in the air and hopping around the globe once again.
Of the 65 production machines produced to end of manufacture in 1974, thetotals were split evenly between Aeroflot and the VTA, the Soviet militaryairlift service, though some sources claim that even the Aeroflot machineswere generally used for military duties. Some of the five prototypes wereupgraded to production specification and put into formal service. The An-22swere used mostly to carry cargoes to the undeveloped Soviet Far East. TheAntonov bureau considered building a double-decker airliner version of theAn-22, with a capacity of 724 passengers, but this machine never got beyonddesign studies.
* A total of 54 Condors was built up to 2004, the aircraft being roughlysplit between civil and military users. Interestingly, two An-22s weremodified to carry the wings on their back for assembly. The RussianAerospace Force currently has 26 An-124s in service. Since 2010, 14 of themhave been upgraded with features such as a modernized cockpit -- reducingcockpit crew from 6 to 4 -- plus other updated avionics; much more reliableD-18T turbofans that meet international noise and emissions regulations; anda service-life extension program (SLEP) that provided a number of airframeand systems improvements.
