After the release of that first album, Timberlake focused on his acting career, starring in the Cameron Crowe-directed comedy Friends With Benefits alongside Vince Vaughn and Anna Faris, and also appearing in the science fiction romantic comedy The Change-Up, with opposite Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. He released his own version of a party anthem, 'Suit & Tie', with then-girlfriend Jessica Biel before returning to music with his second album, Futuresex/LoveSounds. Futuresex/LoveSounds experienced something of a mixed reaction, with its experiments ranging from the shamelessly futuristic 'FutureSex/LoveSounds', with its trippy video and avant-garde stabs such as the funky 'Mrs Lonely', to 'SexyBack', a power ballad with a dance track's groove and lyrics full of BDSM references. But the album sold fairly strongly, and at the end of 2006 a solo Timberlake tour, with an opening act called 'Britney Spears', took place. In 2008 he returned with the album The 20/20 Experience, the first of three albums he would release that year: the second two were The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 and The 20/20 Experience 3 of 3. The former contained the hit duets 'SexyBack', 'Notify Me', remixes of 'Mirrors' and 'Suit & Tie' with Rihanna and Jay-Z, the latter added the material from his home studio, Timbaland's The Aftermath Studios, to the '20/20' material. The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 under-performed commercially in the US and UK, whileThe 20/20 Experience 3 of 3 appears to have clocked up the highest sales of the three, perhaps thanks to the presence of singles 'What Goes Up' and the Jay-Z/Timberlake duo 'Holy Grail' on the singles chart in the US.
Meanwhile, Timberlake released two of his three solo albums on September 4, 2008 in the US. The first, Justified, combined the studio tracks on Futuresex/LoveSounds and The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 with a collection of old-style chestnuts, realising the concept of a 'Second Family' album. d2c66b5586
